This short self-drive safari trip gives you an opportunity to view the big five wildlife game. It begins with a visit to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary and then Murchison falls national park, Uganda’s largest national park. The park is located on the western arm of the Great East African Rift valley.
Murchison falls national park is rich with biodiversity and has a lot to offer, A vast vegetation cover ranging from dense rain forests, woodland, bushland, and open savanna grassland.
The name is derived from Murchison falls: The world’s most powerful waterfall, here the waters of the Nile river forces its self through a narrow gap of 7 meters wide before it unplugs 45 meters down.
The Delta point is where the Nile River pours into and immediately escapes from Lake Albert to starts its long journey to the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt.
Murchison falls national park is divided by the Nile river into two parts the west being bush and forest cover but the northern bank is largely savannah grassland and has a very large gaming potential such as; Buffalos, Giraffes, Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Warthogs, Jackals, Jackson’s hartebeests, Waterbucks, Oribi, Uganda kobs, Bushbucks, Crested porcupines, and good birding prospect as the park harbors over 350 bird species, “The Shoebill”, Gray Heron, African Fish Eagle, Crested Crane, African Eagle Owl, among many.
Day 1: Rhino Experience and Game viewing
Depart from Airport/your hotel of residence early morning to a memorable safari trip to Murchison Falls National park, passing through a beautiful countryside of coffee plantations, pineapple Markets, mangoes and watermelon growing communities before stopping at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
This is the only place in Uganda where you can trek wild Rhinos, having been killed to extinction by 1983. With the efforts of the rhino fund Uganda they have brought hope in the country by breeding back these once extinct giants in this approximately 70sqkm sanctuary.
After the Rhino trekking experience, we will have lunch and then continue to Murchison falls National Park and later check in to our lodge.
If time allows we can go for the evening Game drive that will open our minds to this large wild habitat.
Day 2: Game Viewing in the Savanna and Afternoon Boat Cruise
Today wake up early for your breakfast we go for a morning Game drive. Enjoy the sunrise which is simply like no other, this is a good time of spotting big cats as they hunt for their prey and other animals that survived the night from predators come out of their hiding. On a lucky day, there are chances of spotting a leopard in trees.
Later in the afternoon, we go for a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. The cruise presents an opportunity of sighting animals up close like the Hippos, Elephants, huge Nile crocodiles, Giraffes, and many water birds; we will board off at the bottom of the falls and start our 45-minute hike to the top of the falls, where you will meet your driver-guide to take you back to your lodge.
Day 3: Depart for Kampala or Entebbe Airport
After your leisurely breakfast, check out and head to Kampala or Entebbe. You will have a stopover for lunch along the way. Reaching early evening you can choose to buy some crafts in Kampala or Entebbe.
