This 5 days self-drive adventure Safari enables you to explore wildlife in two Uganda’s popular parks that is; Queen Elizabeth National park for wildlife and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking experience.
The safari will start in Kampala and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable for Gorilla tracking. When the trekking experience is done, we will then move to Queen Elizabeth National park for a Big Four experience.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National park is Uganda’s Ecological wonder. The park is blessed with wildlife including the four of the Big five (Lions, Leopard, Elephant, and Buffalo), including the rare tree-climbing lions in the south, Hyenas, Hippos, Crocodiles, Topi in the south, Warthogs, Uganda kob, bushbucks, Waterbuck, etc. In addition to Game, the park has a record of 600 bird species, Explosion crater lakes, Freshwater lakes like lake Edward and George.
Bwindi Impenetrable forest is home to half a population of the world’s mountain Gorillas and is among the few places in the world where you can find the gentle giants, The Mountain Gorillas, The others are, Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National park in Rwanda and Virunga National park in DR Congo.
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Meet with your driver guide in the morning either in Kampala/Entebbe, have a short briefing about the safari before setting off to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park at 7:00hrs. you will have a stopover at the Equator line where you get a chance to stretch our legs, feel the zero line, you can also purchase souvenirs if you want.
Proceed south-west with a lunch stop in mind at Igongo Cultural Center in Mbarara, also famous for long horned cattle “Ankole cattle”. After continue as you enjoy the beautiful landscape of hills and valleys of the pearl of Africa along your scenic drive. You will arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening. Check in at Luxury Silverback Lodge, Mid-range; Haven Lodge, Budget; Gorilla Conservation Camp for dinner and Overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Rain Forest
An early wake up hot breakfast you head to the park visitor headquarters for briefing. Here you will be divided into groups of 8 members before entering the rain forest in company of an armed ranger guide.
Make sure you are equipped with Packed lunch and enough drinking water, jungle boot, rain jacket you are now good to go.
The impenetrable forest is more 250000 years old, just a walk in the forest is amazing. The trek can take you between 1-8 hours searching for these few remaining gentle giants, you’re strictly allowed one hour in their amidst once you find them. You will return back to the visitor centre for graduation and then if you have time in the evening, visit the batwa community and see how this vulnerable tribe that was chased away from the forest they called their home. Return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park and evening Game drive
Today begin with a full breakfast and then with our packed lunch we will drive through large green banana and tea plantations on your journey to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will experience the change in Vegetation cover and terrain because the land generally becomes flat, mechanization is possible, other cash crops which are grown in the region include; cotton, maize, sunflowers on the season.
We will enter the park through the south and In this southern part called the Isasha sector, we will lookout for the rare tree-climbing lions as well as other animals like the Elephants, Buffalos, Topis, Uganda Kob and birds like long-crested Eagle and many more. Continue north as you enjoy the game drive along the way. Check-in at Either Luxury; Katara Safari Lodge, Mid-range; Kasenyi Safari Camp, Budget; Tembo Safari Lodge, enjoy the sunset view in the opening.
Day 4: Game drive and Afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga channel
Have your morning breakfast as early as 6am, then you set off for a morning game drive searching for game.This is the best time of seeing almost every animals as they return from their hidings as well as finding big cats still actively hunting, big animals to lookout include; Elephants, Lions, Buffaloes, Hyenas, Warthogs, Uganda kob, Waterbuck, leopard on a lucky day, with a plenty of birds such as; Hamerkop, Gray heron, Lesser kestrel, Marabou stock, African harrier hawk, Northern Red bishop, Bateleur, African fish eagle, to mention but a few. Visit the craft village and return to the Lodge.
After your lunch we will go for a 2:00 o’clock boat cruise along Kazinga channel that connects Lake George from Lake Edward where you will encounter amazing concentration of wildlife among which include; the Nile crocodile, Elephants, Hippopotamus, Monitor lizard, Buffaloes, Antelopes drawing water from the channel, a lot of water birds such as; little Grebe, Yellow billed stock, African spoonbill, Great white pelican, Egyptian geese, Great Cormorant, African fish eagle, Giant King fishers. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Depart of Kampala/Entebbe via Fort portal Area
After your breakfast, depart for Kampala or Entebbe and with lunch on the way, then drive through fort portal area, enjoy magnificent views of Rwenzori Mountains also known as mountains of the moon, view lots of crater lakes along the way as well as beautiful and large tea plantations, you can as your drive to stop for wonderful pictures, continue to Entebbe/Kampala for your flight back hence ending our 5 days Uganda adventure safari.
What you need for Gorilla Trekking
Water: Gorilla trekking can be very tiresome and you need to refill your tank as the trek goes on. It is advisable to park a few water filtration tablets before you come for the trek.
Boots: You will need good waterproof comfortable shoes. Some times it rains during the trek, so skid proof shoes can come in handy.
Rain Jacket: You are advised to carry a rain jacket because if rains very often in Bwindi Impenetrable forest
Snack: You can carry a light snack to give you some energy during the walk in the forest
Trouser and Shirts Bwindi forest is covered with thick undergrowth, therefore light trousers and long-sleeved shirts are advised.
Socks: You will have to tuck in the trousers into the socks to avoid insects crawling inside.
Gloves: You will need Gardening gloves because you will be grabbing tree branches, leaves, name it, and some can be thorny.
Camera: Carry a good camera (no flash for gorillas) to capture this lifetime experience
