This true wilderness tour will take you to one of the remotest places in the world, the route to Kidepo national park, Sipi falls, Murchison falls national park and Ziwa rhino sanctuary is one of the scenic journeys in Africa.
The safari starts in Kampala via Jinja and have a stop at the Source of the Nile for a boat ride and then continue to Sipi falls for a beautiful view of the waterfalls on the slopes of mountain Elgon. Then the tour continues to Kidepo National park for wild game drive, Cultural tour, and bird watching.
Kidepo Valley is one of the few places in Uganda where you can see the Cheetahs and Ostriches. This park is also well known for large Buffalo herds in Africa, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebra, Lions, Jackals, Leopard, Olive Baboons, Patas monkeys, Hyenas, Rock Hilux, Mountain reedback, Eland, Diki diki, Orbi, Jackson’s Haarbeest, Uganda Kob, Lesser Kudu, Caracal etc.
Soon white Rhinos will be re-introduced in this park after years of extinction, Kidepo national park has a total of 77 mammal species.
Birds in Kidepo Valley National park
Kidepo Valley National park has a registered 470 bird species and its only behind Queen Elizabeth National park’s 600 bird species.
While in this park you can spot birds like; Ostrich, grey horn bill, Golden pipit, Pygmy falcon, Little bee-eater, Rufous chatterer, Jackson’s hornbill, Chestnut weaver birds, Purple grenadier, Kori bustard, Dark chanting goshawk, White-eyed kestrel, Red-and-yellow barbet, White-eyed kestrel and among many.
After Kidepo national park, the safari continues to Murchison falls national park for a boat cruise, more wildlife game drives including Hippos, Monitor lizard and crocodiles. Then wrap it up at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary for White Rhino tracking.
Day 1: Drive east to Sipi Falls
Our 8 days Uganda safari begins this morning after your breakfast, meet your driver guide, and then drive eastwards with a first stop at Jinja to visit the Source of the Nile; The world’s longest river where you take a boat ride to the source point, before breaking off for lunch in this city. Drive to Mbale through large green sugar cane plantations, green fields of rice and bananas. And then reach at our lodge in the evening
Day 2: Set off for Moroto and Karamajong people
In morning after your breakfast continue with a stopover in mind for photos on the way and moroto for lunch and check in your hotel. Visit a karamajong village in the evening, see how these people live.
The karamajong people form cattle keeping community with a very unique culture and amazing homesteads called (manyattas).buy some unique souvenirs handmade by women. After the tour we retire for overnight and Dinner at the Karatunga Safari Lodge.
Day 3: Arrival to Kidepo valley National Park
An ideal sunrise breakfast and then depart for Kidepo valley national park driving through country homes, meet large herds of cattle along the way then arriving in the early afternoon for lunch, check in into the lodge with an evening introduction to the true Kidepo wildlife.
We go for an early evening game drive to look for game such as Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, antelopes, Jackals, with a wide range of birdlife like, the Abysian roller, secretary bird.
Day 4: Visit hot springs and Cultural tour
Today is another chance for a game drive in the northern side of the park, searching for rare sightings like ostriches and cheetahs. We then continue to Kanangorok hot spring near the South Sudan border. We cross the kidepo river which is decorated with numerous palm tree and lots of birds as well as wild game to see. We return to the lodge for Lunch.
In the afternoon we leave for a cultural village tour. We pick a local guide to the cultural village of the Karamajong people whose culture is the same as that of the famous Masai nomadic pastoralists.
Day 5: Drive to Murchison falls national park
Following your early breakfast transfer to Murchison falls national park via Kitgum district and you’re your stopover for lunch in Gulu City, a once war toned area which has grown into a very big city now. After proceed to your lodge for dinner and overnight near Murchison falls national park. Check in at either Pakuba safari lodge Luxury, heritage Safari Lodge Mid-range, Horn bill bush Lodge Budget.
Day 6: Game drive and Afternoon boat cruise
Have an early morning breakfast or packed to give you great sightings before the effect of the sun.
This game drive is likely to reward you with the view of wildlife such as, Lions, Hyenas, Leopards on a lucky day, Elephants, Buffalos, Giraffes, Waterbucks, Patas monkey, Bush pigs, Warthogs, Oribi, visit the koblet (mating grounds for Kobs), several bird species like; African grey hornbill, African fish eagle, northern Camine bee eater, northan red bishop, Shoe bill stock, Abysinia ground horn bill and other wildlife.
Return to the lodge for quick lunch and head for afternoon boat ride to the bottom of the falls. Here you get an opportunity of seeing wildlife up-close, such as; Hippopotamus, crocodiles, buffaloes, birds like King fisher and other animals coming to draw water from the river.
You will also view this most powerful waterfall from its bottom a magnificent view that will leave you amazed by this God’s creation. Return after the boat ride with an option of doing an evening gamelike Elephants, giraffes among others.
Day 7: Visit Top of the falls and transfer to Ziwa rhino sanctuary
Today you have the opportunity to enjoy more wild life as you head to the top of the mighty Murchison falls. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and take as many pictures as possible. From there drive to Zziwa rhino sanctuary, this 70sqkm protected area is only place in Uganda where you can trek white rhinos in their natural habitat.
We have Lunch probably at Kabalega Dinner or Masindi Town and then later check in at the lodge for overnight and dinner.
Day 8: Morning Rhino tracking and set off for Kampala/ Entebbe
This morning you have the opportunity to trek and see white rhinos, after your breakfast. This is a great time for you to track rhinos because they are still very active before the sunshine, spend an hour with them which is simply majestic, creating a good occasion for photos as close as promising. Returning to the lodge to check out and start on the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.
